Lunar Lore Stamps

Lunar Lore is a series of commemorative stamps created to showcase the International Day of the Full Moon. To keep the international theme, three different legends and myths from various countries were chosen. Selene the Moon Titaness from Greek myth, Mani the god of the Moon from Norse legend, and the Jade Rabbit from Japanese folklore. Once each design was finalized in pencil, they were taken to Photoshop. One by one, they became paintings created with the help of a Wacom tablet and a lot of time.

Selene

Selene is the Moon Titaness in Greek mythology. Her sacred animal has been attributed to the white bull, which pulls her chariot across the sky as she blankets the world in night. She is often associated with Artemis, Greek Goddess of the Hunt and the Moon.

Jade Rabbit

The Jade Rabbit is a very prevalent symbol in the mythology of various cultures across Asia. This piece highlights the Jade Rabbit as he glows and leaps into his spot in the sky. He illuminates the pink moss that blooms around Mt. Buko.

Mani

Mani is the Norse god of the Moon. Hati the wolf chases the moon across the sky until Ragnarok, when she will consume it. The two children fetching pails of water are Hjuk and Bil, one of the possible originations for the nursery rhyme of Jack and Jill. They travel in the sky and follow Mani as he traces a path across the sky.
